It's Labor Day! Time for Annual Bike Races in Basking Ridge

Downtown will again turn into a bike racing course with events for everyone from kiddies to top cyclists.

The 21st annual Olde Mill Inn Tour of Basking Ridge will bring a bike racing event that's a Labor Day tradition in Benards Township, with races for everyone from top category 4 cyclists seeking a $500 purse to kids competing for medals (and in previous years, lollipops.)

Races begin at 7:15 a.m. for the masters 55 plus category continuing through the final race category 5/citizens at 1:30 p.m.

Information on races is on bikereg.com. Registration now should be done on race day, with $10 added on to the regular fee, and a $10 discount for participating in two races.

There is no fee for children. Races for children ages 3 to 15 will begin at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine. Bicycle sprints with training wheels will be held for girls and boys in ages 3 to 4 and 5 to 6 categories; and bicycle sprints in different categories for ages 3 to 11.

For children, all races will be a sprint, straight away style, with the exception of the 12-15 year old category, according to the recreation department.

The older cyclists will race one lap of the course. Balance bikes, tricycles, or push bikes are not permitted in the races.
