Tobin Heath, U.S. Women's Soccer Going for Gold

Basking Ridge native will have the eyes of the world on her Thursday, when the women's soccer team plays final match.

The U.S. women's soccer team fell behind in Monday's semifinal Olympics match against rival Canada, but the battle of north vs. south ultimately went to the U.S., which scored a 4-3 victory in a game with Basking Ridge's Tobin Heath filling a solid spot as midfielder.

According to ESPN soccer.net, the United States' last-gasp extra-time win to seals the team's spot in the Olympics women's soccer final for the fifth successive tournament. A video with highlights from the game is on the Huffington Post.

Thursday's final match will now be a repeat of last year's World Cup final in which Japan triumphed on penalties following a 2-2 draw at the end of 120 minutes.

Heath, who has moved into a starter spot in this Olympics soccer games, also during which local fans cheered her on then — moved through a string of victories to reach the point where the U.S. women's team has a shot at the gold.

Heath is a 2006 graduate of , who played on the school's girls soccer team for three years.
