Janssen Volunteers Pitch in at Lord Stirling Stable

Volunteers begin construction of therapeutic riding sensory trail.

A dozen volunteers from Janssen Research and Development in Raritan recently spent several hours at in Basking Ridge, pitching in to begin the first phase of construction for a Therapeutic Riding Program Sensory Trail in the pine grove along the stable's trails.

The 12 volunteers from Janssen R&D, LLC, a Johnson & Johnson Company, trimmed and removed brush to prepare paths and clearings where objects will provide sight, sound, olfactory, and tactile stimulation for the stable's Therapeutic Recreation horseback riding students.

The trail will include stations for mounted students to experience the textures of various materials; play a simple tune on color-coded tubes; ride through a “car wash”; experience the aromas of an herb garden; and much more.
