School Cafeteria Charges Mixup on Board of Ed Agenda, Meetings This Week

BOE also to discuss quarterly exams, Bernards Township Committee to meet at Bernards Township Library this week.

Thanksgiving closings are on the calendar for municipal offices and Bernards Township schools, which let out early on Wednesday, there are still some important meetings coming up during the week ahead.

The Bernards Township Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Monday at the William Annin Middle School, and one of the items on the agenda is an update on a mix-up of  the Ridge High School cafeteria's computerized accounting system for lunch charges that had been damaged.

Some students reportedly had been told that they had rung up charges of $250 — or more — and they would be unable to purchase lunch at the cafeteria until those charges had been settled.

While those technical issues were being addressed, an email message from Ridge High School to parents last week acknowledged that "the account histories parents and students can view online from 'My School Bucks' may be incorrect."

The email said the school district had received many phone calls from parents with concerns about missing transactions and deposits.

"We are trying to get this resolved with My School Bucks but in the meantime we can provide updated information through the POS cash register system here at the high school," the email said. Parents with questions were also asked to send an email at cwisbeski@bernardsboe.com with a request for information, and they would be send the account history.

The superintendent's report for Monday also lists an update on quarterly assessments at the high school, which replaced midterms and final exams last years, and were recently completed at the end of the first marking period earlier this month. Grade reports for college applications are now available for students.

The Bernards Township Committee also is scheduled to meet this week, at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

While work continues on renovations to the combination courtroom and main meeting room at the Bernards Township municipal building at 1 Collyer Lane, the Township Committee meeting again is scheduled to take place at the Bernards Township Library.

Bernards Township municipal offices are scheduled to be closed on Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Bernards Township Library is scheduled to close early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, and to remain closed on Thursday and Friday.

The library will reopen on Saturday and Sunday, according to the library website.
