Ridge Football Season Set to Open Thursday

First game also is 'blackout night' for Ridge Red Devils fans.


This year's season's opener for Ridge football is set to be played at 7 p.m. at home, on Thursday night. As with last year, the team's first opponent will be Montgomery High School.

Thet game will be blackout night. However, lightning could result in play being called off, according to the school's athletic department. As of shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday, the game was still on.

This year, the game against rival Immaculata High School is scheduled to be played away at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, at Somerville High School.

The team's victory against Montgomery last year, followed by a win against rival Immaculata, set the stage for a winning streak last fall.

The team has had an active schedule of practices and scrimmage games n recent weeks.

Captains for 2013 are: 

Conor Hughes — QB/defensive halfback/punter/kicker

Nick Franzese — Halfback/defensive halfback/return man

A.J. Peterpaul — Center/offensive and defensive guard

Ryan Bell — End/defensive end
