Veterans Day Activities, Public Safety Communications Tower Discussion This Week

'Quarterly' assessment tests at Ridge High School put off until Tuesday.

Monday is Veterans Day, with with a get-together for veterans and military families, to begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Somerset Hills YMCA. Other activities are planned during the day by the Bernardsville VFW Post 7858, which also represents Basking Ridge.

Board of Education meeting scheduled for Monday

The Bernards Township Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday at the William Annin Middle School.

It will be a busy week in the school district. Quarterly assessment tests at Ridge High School, which last year replaced midterms and final exams, will resume on Tuesday, a day after students return from a four-day weekend due to the New Jersey Education Association.

Testing already began before the break, and originally was scheduled to begin again on Monday. However, the return of the tests after each of the first four marking periods later was rescheduled to Tuesday.

Speakers at the meeting late in September said that there had been a great deal of concern among parents who wanted to take their students to visit colleges, or parents whose children had other activities planned for that four-day weekend. Those parents said that many students would not have sufficient time to study for the tests.

Township Committee meeting on Tuesday

The Bernards Township Committee is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, with the agenda also listing that meeting location as Program room B of the library. Most recently, township officials had said the work at the municipal building likely will be completed by around Thanksgiving.

Among one of the first items on the agenda is a request from Somerset County to install a public safety communications tower at Pill Hill landfill in Basking Ridge.
